Mitsubishi Motors Thailand continues its green activity under the “Root for Sustainability” project by planting trees in 40 rai of land in Nakhon Ratchasima

BANGKOK – 3 August, 2022: Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Motors Thailand Foundation (MMTF), led by Mr. Eiichi Koito, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd and Chairman of MMTF together with Mr. Egathi Rattana-Aree, Executive Vice President, Human Resources & General Administration Unit and Vice Chairman of MMTF planted more various types of trees in 40 rai of land in Ban Khok Phluang Community Forest, Chakkarat District, Nakhon Ratchasima province in an effort to fight against climate crisis as part of the reforestation project titled: Root for Sustainability.

“8,000 seedlings were planted in Ban Khok Phluang Community Forest today, which will increase in size over the next four to five years and enhance the quality of life for locals. Both people and wildlife will benefit greatly from the tree's capacity to provide sources of food and water. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who participated in our reforestation activity, including the Royal Forest Department, the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization), and community members of the Ban Khok Phluang. Long-term benefits of the project include reduced carbon emissions, sustainable human-forest coexistence. More carbon credits that are generated by our environmental projects can also be traded to offset the carbon dioxide we release into the atmosphere. The "Root for Sustainability" project is the second phase of the "60 Years 60 Rai Reforestation" project, which was launched in 2021 to mark Mitsubishi Motors' 60th anniversary in Thailand. Last year, trees were planted on 20 rai of land in the Ang Krapong Community Forest, Chonburi Province, and another 40 rai of land in Ban Na Ngam Community Forest, Sa Kaeo Province.

“Ban Khok Phluang Community Forest had experienced serious invasion since 1972. The community forest's size decreased from 576 rai to 260 rai as a result of continual encroachment. The locals have been working together with the public and private sectors to restore the community forest. The Royal Forest Department and the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) are working together on a community forest project in fight against climate change with the aim of leveraging the private sector to empower local people in safeguarding the community forest lands. We are really grateful for Mitsubishi Motors Thailand's reforestation efforts, which supported 8,000 seedlings consists of 24 types, including high-value trees, blooming plants, multi-purpose trees, and fruit trees. Teak, Siamese Rosewood, Acacia Mangium, Yang Naa, bamboo, Thai copper pod, India Gooseberry, Mango, Jackfruit, Java Plum, and Trumpet Tree are among examples to bring maximum benefits for local community in Ban Khok Phluang Community Forest,” Mr. Somthawin Leelamanotham, Forestry Technical Manager the Royal Forest Department said.

During the event, the Mitsubishi Triton pickup trucks were used to transfer the trees to activity site, demonstrating that Mitsubishi models can travel to any areas and under all conditions, while the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which has the capacity to deliver electricity to a variety of electrical appliances with a maximum power output of 1,500 watts, was used to power the portable refrigerator to store the ice cream given to the event's participating children. A steaming fan set up at the event was also powered by the Outlander PHEV.
