Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy pays a courtesy visit on Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s CEO to explore investment opportunities and strengthen Thailand’s EV roadmap and investment

TOKYO, Japan – May 5, 2022: Mr. Takao Kato, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and top management executives, including Mr. Eiichi Koito, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Thailand, welcomed Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, H.E. Supattanapong Punmeechaow, ML Chayotid Kridakon, Thai trade representative chairman and advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister, and Ms. Duangjai Asawachintachit, the Secretary General of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) who visited the headquarters of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation to exchange views on Thailand’s EV roadmap, future EV investment as well as the Thai government’s measures to support the future growth of EV sector.

During the courtesy visit, H.E. Supattanapong and a delegation of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) visited Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s showroom where Mitsubishi Motors’ series of electrified models including PHEV and BEV are on exhibit.

“We are truly grateful for the visit which allows our top management of Mitsubishi Motors to meet with Thai government and share our direction and technology toward electrification in the future. Throughout the constructive discussion about Thailand’s EV roadmap and strategies, we appreciate the Thai government’s unwavering support and are encouraged by the country’s rapid adoption of the electric vehicles. This visit reaffirms our electrification direction and strategy, as well as our efforts to encourage Thai customers to embrace electrified vehicles. As the world's first mass-production BEV company, electrification has become part of our core technology for our business operation. We have an electrification strategy in place for Thailand and have begun manufacture and sales of the Outlander PHEV as the most current practical electrification solution for Thai market,” said Mr. Eiichi Koito, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Thailand

“The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV can be used as BEV with a range of up to 55 kilometers if the vehicle is fully charged. The environment-friendly vehicle, which is made in Thailand, can also be utilized as hybrid electrical vehicle (HEV) if the driver needs to go long distances. Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has a strategy to gradually expand its powertrain lineup, starting with PHEV, to include HEV and BEV. From 2024 onwards, the company also intends to convert all passenger automobiles to electrified powertrains.” Mr. Koito continued.

Mitsubishi Motor Thailand has announced a partnership with Thailand Post and PTT Oil and Retail Business Plc (OR) to conduct a pilot study on the commercial use of Minicab MiEV in delivering parcels in order to explore the potential of a widespread adoption of electric vehicles in Thailand. The project is one of the company’s approaches to promote Mitsubishi Motors Corporation's new environmental plan package, which aims to cut carbon emissions from new automobiles by 40% and increase the proportion of electrified vehicles in total sales to 50% by 2030.

Thai government organized this first visit to Japan since the COVID-19 outbreak under the “Asia-Japan Investing for the Future Initiative” vision during April 19–23, 2022. During the visit to Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s headquarter, both parties exchanged their opinions and information regarding automotive electrification in Thailand.
