MOU inked between Mitsubishi Motors Thailand and PEA to pave the way for more convenient and secure electric vehicle charging service for Outlander PHEV customers nationwide

Bangkok – August 8, 2022: Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd., one of xEV leaders in Thailand, marks further cooperative partnership with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) by signing a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to utilize an innovative development that creates greater convenience and security to all Outlander PHEV drivers for their electrical charging with CHAdeMO system through PEA Volta AUTOCHARGE feature under PEA’s mobile application, and also to explore and study on V2X technology utilization.

Mr. Eiichi Koito, President and CEO, Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. said, “The signing of the second MOU with PEA is a great honor for Mitsubishi Motors Thailand and reflects our strong commitment to the Thai government’s electrification roadmap. We strongly believe that the MOU with the PEA this time will strengthen our partnership strategy not just only to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in Thailand, but also to accommodate our Outlander PHEV users to have more convenient and safer charging their vehicles at PEA Volta stations nationwide. As part of this MOU, it will also be possible for us and PEA to study and explore V2X technology utilization further. This technology is only available and usable with the CHAdeMO charging system that comes with the Outlander PHEV. A joint study on V2X technology with PEA will play an important role in supporting our direction against climate change which is also in line with the Environmental Plan Package by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation.”

Under this agreement, both parties agree to support the deployment of innovations related to electric charging station service and PEA’s mobile application, enhance charging information sharing, and organize activities to build an alliance network. Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand will support the deployment of the PEA’s Mobile Application.

A new feature in PEA's mobile application called "PEA VOLTA AUTOCHRAGE" enables EV drivers, including owners of Outlander PHEVs, to quickly charge their cars at charging stations. The CHAdeMO charger's data will immediately be stored to the cloud upon a successful app identification, and charging will start rapidly. For the subsequent charge, no identification is necessary, ensuring your ease and data security.

As of now, 73 PEA VOLTA charging stations have been installed. The PEA plans to open a total of 263 charging stations by 2023. As part of that, 163 stations can accommodate CHEdeMO charging for drivers of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Through CHAdeMO charging system, it is capable for a quick charge to electric vehicle’s battery to 80% in 25 minutes.

Mr. Supachai Ek-Un, the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) governor stressed that, “One of the main drivers of the expansion of EVs in our nation at the moment is the accessibility of charging stations. So, in order to increase the usage of EVs, our primary goal is to increase the number of charging stations around the nation. To accommodate the growing number of EV drivers and provide them with a pleasant and secure experience when using the mobile application, more charging stations must be installed in addition to the development of the PEA’s mobile application. The Outlander PHEV's CHAdeMO connector will soon be covered by our AUTOCHARGE technology, thanks to our partnership with Mitsubishi Motors Thailand. We are certain that the Outlander PHEV customers will benefit from our 73 PEA VOLTA charging stations nationwide.”

In December 2020, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand signed an MoU with PEA and Delta Thailand to deepen their collaboration on EV growth, charging infrastructure, and the PEA’s mobile application for EV charging. The MoU seeks to cooperate and exchange information on Mitsubishi Motors Thailand's EV usage and Delta's EV charging station locations as well as to enhance Thai users' experiences with the PEA's mobile application, which helps users locate charging stations conveniently all throughout the nation.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is the world’s first Plug-in Hybrid SUV and the first Japanese PHEV made in Thailand since 2020. Drivers can enjoy with a smoother and quieter ride without compromising comfort and performance with “bi-energy” both electric charging and conventional fuel. It is also the flagship model which embodies Mitsubishi Motors’ expertise in electrification, SUV and all-wheel control technologies.

Additionally, it can be used as a hybrid vehicle to accommodate both long journeys and as a 100% EV for daily driving. It allows drivers to enjoy driving with no range anxiety. With the benefit, the vehicle is considered the most practical option under the current technology and available infrastructures in Thailand. The PHEV itself has the lowest CO2 exhaust from the life cycle assessment point of view.
