Mitsubishi Motors Thailand Hands Over Solar Panel System to Dan Makham Tia Hospital Under the ‘Solar for Lives’ Project, Aiming to Achieve a Carbon-Neutral Society

BANGKOK – December 19, 2023: Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. recently handed over a solar panel system to Dan Makham Tia Hospital in Kanchanaburi under its ‘Solar for Lives’ project as the first one in western Thailand and the seventh one of the project. The objective of the whole project is to install 50-kilowatt solar power systems in 40 community hospitals within the next 10 years. This initiative sits under the ‘Environment’ pillar, and aims to bring about a carbon-neutral society in line with Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s CSR direction ‘To Contribute and Grow with Thai Society’ under its three main pillars – Education, Environment and Health.

Mr. Yasunori Koyanagi, Vice President, Global Parts and Accessories Division, Aftersales Division and Field Service Division of Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. said, “Launched in 2022, ‘Solar for Lives’ is a project in cooperation with our partners and state agencies including the Ministry of Public Health, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO).”

“Our goal for putting solar panel systems in community hospitals across Thailand is to increase the availability of good healthcare services to Thai people. This project can create sustainable energy sources for hospitals, and promote the government's strategic goals to bring Thailand towards a carbon-neutral society. We expect to invest THB 60 million in solar panel systems installation and maintenance for 40 community hospitals within 10 years. For Dan Makham Tia Hospital, the project is expected to reduce the hospital’s carbon dioxide emissions by more than 30 tons per year,” added Mr. Koyanagi.

Dr. Chad Chankhum, Director of Dan Makham Tia Hospital said, “Thanks to Mitsubishi Motors Thailand and the project’s partners. With the solar panel system, it has reduced our power costs. We can use the savings to develop other aspects of our hospital. The increased efficiency also means we can focus on enhancing healthcare services to all the patients in our community for better and heathier lives.”

Dr. Krissada Wuttayakorn, Deputy Provincial Public Health Medical Doctor of Kanchanaburi Provincial Public Health Office said, “On behalf of the Ministry of Public Health, one of the ’Solar for Lives’ project’s partners, I reckon this project as the significant collaboration between government agencies and private sector organization to promote clean energy consumption that can bring about a reduction in electricity expenses by up to THB 400,000 per hospital per year, in addition to reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Mitsubishi Motors Thailand is such a role model to play an important role to support the Ministry of Public Health as the government agency to serve our community for better quality of life and sustainable society development.”
