Mitsubishi Motors Thailand revealed the aggressive business plan to drive its ambitious for future

  • Launch 100% of passenger cars to electrified powertrains from 2024 onwards.
  • Introduce the New XPANDER as the family of MITSUBISHI SUV with MPV utility, for the first time in Thailand to offer expanded value for customer. Unveiling a fresh luxury new design in addition to new CVT called “Eco Dynamic CVT” and other updated specifications and features.
  • Announce the return to the throne of motor sport competition by participating Asia Cross Country Rally 2022 to strengthen technology from rally to the current road-going models.
  • Continue and further the second series of RALLIART models with the launching of two new RALLIART models including the Mitsubishi Triton RALLIART Double-Cab and Mitsubishi Mirage RALLIART which will also be unveiled at this year’s Bangkok International Motor Show.

BANGKOK – March 18, 2022: Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Thailand’s leading automotive manufacturer, unveiled an ambitious business plan to produce all of its passenger cars powered by electrified powertrains from 2024 onwards. This announcement reflects a commitment to ensuring all future model releases are able to contribute to moving towards an electric world. For 2022, the company also plans to unveil its New XPANDER, the latest iteration of the best-selling MPV in Thailand, as well as two new RALLIART models, the Mitsubishi Triton RALLIART Double-Cab and Mitsubishi Mirage RALLIART. This will add further models under the legendary RALLIART portfolio, and these are set to be launched officially at the 43rd Bangkok International Motor Show.

“Electrification is consistent with our global environmental target to reduce CO2 emissions by 40% in new vehicles, as well as to raise our target ratio of electric vehicle (EV) sales to 50% by 2030; this is part of our aspiration to enable Thailand to be a carbon-neutral society. From 2024 onwards, we are committed to bringing XEV electrified powertrains for all of our passenger cars in the Thai market,” Mr. Eiichi Koito, President and CEO, Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. said during a recent press conference.

In addition to Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s announcement of its electrified transition, the company will unveil the new Mitsubishi XPANDER for the first time in Thailand at the 43rd Bangkok International Motor Show. This new model comes to market with an upgraded luxury design inside and out, with further emphasizing its striking SUV styling; meanwhile, high efficiency “Eco Dynamic CVT” is newly adopted to reduce fuel consumption, and to offer high level of quietness, and smooth and powerful performance under all driving conditions.

Since its launch in Thailand in August 2018, the XPANDER has amassed an impressive cumulative sales volume of over 44,000 units across all variants making it one of the most iconic models, and it has remained the best-selling MPV in Thailand. This model also won ‘Thailand Car of the Year’ for four consecutive years under the category of ‘The Best MPV under 1,600 cc’.

Mitsubishi Motors Thailand will also introduce two new RALLIART models, the Mitsubishi Triton RALLIART Double-Cab and Mitsubishi Mirage RALLIART at the Bangkok International Motor Show, adding more options to the RALLIART lineup for customers who love to experience the excitement and passion for competition pedigree that is the legendary RALLIART marque.

“We will continue to improve our vehicles and aftersales services for Thai customers by incorporating our Mitsubishi Motors-ness vision, based on safety, security and comfort, as well as environmental friendliness. Furthermore, our motorsport experience gained from achieving worldwide successes in many of the world's toughest rally competitions have been passed down to our modern road-going vehicles in the form of technologies that feature in all Mitsubishi Motors’s current models. Our R&D facility has comprehensively tested all Mitsubishi vehicles in a number of environmental simulations and settings, to ensure that they function superbly across a multitude of weather and road situations,” said Mr. Koito.

To showcase ‘the Spirit of Victory’ DNA - and its continued passion for motorsport at the highest level - Mitsubishi Motors has announced a plan to participate in the Asia Cross Country Rally 2022 under the Team Mitsubishi RALLIART marque. This motorsport team will be led by Mr. Hiroshi Masuoka, one of the world’s top Japanese rally racers and winner of the Dakar Rally twice in succession in 2002 and 2003. His influence, expertise and irreproachable reputation in the sport will spearhead the revival of the RALLIART icon with a modified entry platform based on the Mitsubishi Triton model.

Mr. Masuoka said, “Mitsubishi Motors’ cars allowed me to finish faster than anyone else in the grueling rallies. This means that our cars can help drivers reach their destination with confidence and peace of mind in any road conditions. I will lead Team Mitsubishi RALLIART as team director, and Mitsubishi Motors' engineers will develop the race car and provide technical support during the competition. Apart from its dedicated focus on its electrified vehicle business and furthering motorsport innovation, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand remains committed to initiatives that reduce CO2 emissions in the country. The company has also launched CSR projects in line with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation's sustainability orientation and global trends, including the introduction of electrified vehicles into the Thai market (the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV), the use of solar energy at the manufacturing facilities, the 60 Rai of reforestation it is conducting in Chonburi and Sa Kaeo provinces, and the donation of solar panels to rural hospitals across Thailand through the project entitled “Solar for Lives”. In addition, we have recently started of the operation of the new Paint Factory which has offered best-quality automotive paintwork through innovative and environment-friendly technologies. Those technologies will support the reduction of volatile organic compounds (VoCs) and carbon dioxide emissions to the environment.
