Mitsubishi Motors Thailand receives Green Industry Level 4 certificate from the Ministry of Industry

Bangkok – February 21, 2022: Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. recently received the Green Industry Level 4 certificate for the Laem Chabang factory in Chonburi province from Ministry of Industry. The company’s facilities in the area are among Mitsubishi Motors Corporation's key production facilities, exporting its vehicles to about 120 countries worldwide and has been producing more than six million vehicles so far.

Mr. Eiichi Koito, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Thailand, said: “We are truly pleased that a total of six facilities of Mitsubishi Motors Thailand and its subsidiary MMTh Engine Co. have been recognized and presented with the Green Industry Level 4 certificate. The certificate shows our commitment to contribute to Thai society for environmental preservation while promoting the growth of the automotive industry in Thailand.”

The Thai government awards Green Industry certificates to businesses that commit to operating in an environmentally responsible way and that pursue the path towards sustainability. The Green Industry Level 4 certificate, which has recently been awarded to Mitsubishi Motors Thailand, is given to businesses that are able to not only integrate environmental and social responsibility into the organization’s culture but can also constantly implement, evaluate and further develop such systems.

Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has been carrying out environment-friendly initiatives in its various facilities with the aim to reduce waste, energy consumption and CO2 emissions. “We utilize waterborne painting with low volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and build wastewater treatment systems in line with the 3Rs of waste management — Reduce, Reuse and Recycle — to lower raw water usage and wastewater discharge. We also installed solar panels on the roof of our factories and have started utilizing solar energy with our vehicle manufacturing processes with the aim to reduce more than 6,100 tons of CO2 emissions each year,” Mr. Koito shared.

Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has rolled out the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV to provide customers an option to switch to a plug-in hybrid SUV with high performance but low emission. Earlier this year, the company also launched a new green initiative called "Solar for Lives," which is focused on installing solar panels in community hospitals across Thailand. The company also supports carbon emission reduction through 60 Years 60 Rai reforestation project.”

With an impressive roster of green initiatives and achievements over the years, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has been recognized with the ISO 14001 certification since 2001, the Green Industry Level 3 certification in 2015 and two 3Rs Award from the Department of Industrial Works in 2015 and 2020.

“I would like to thank all employees and participating parties who were a part of this achievement. We expect to reaffirm our commitment to being fully sustainable and eco-friendly company through the Life Cycle CO2 reduction by low emission products, production by green factory and each activity consistently”, Mr. Koito said.

More importantly, the company will continue to implement various efforts under its MMC Environment Plan Package, which aims to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society for the next 30 years. In line with this vision, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation will promote climate change resiliency by reducing CO2 emissions using electric vehicles and renewable energy, the development of a resource-recycling society and pollution prevention by controlling the environmental impact of its products and business activities.
