Mitsubishi Motors Thailand reaps Corporate Sustainability Award from Thailand Top Company Awards 2022 for its push towards sustainability

Bangkok – May 31, 2022: Mitsubishi Motors Thailand recently received the Corporate Sustainability Award at the Thailand Top Company Awards 2022 at Inter Continental Bangkok Hotel, showcasing the company’s long-term dedication to sustainability development for Thai society. The Corporate Sustainability Award, which was granted to Mitsubishi Motors Thailand, is given to businesses that demonstrate excellent performance in sustainability by Business Plus magazine.


Mr. Eiichi Koito, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Thailand, said: “It is an honor and a privilege to win the “Corporate Sustainability Award” which recognizes our philosophy and sustainability direction. We have been doing business in Thailand for 61 years and has been a part of Thailand's development and advancement toward a sustainable economy, society and environment ever since. Besides providing products and services which satisfy different needs of customers, we also have our strong dedication to Thai society. We aim to contribute to the country’s long-term economic, social, and environmental sustainability by conducting business in accordance with the company's seven pillars – employment, human resources development, investments, technology transfer, exports, social contribution, and environment. These contribution reflect our reason of existing here in Thailand.”


Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has set a goal of supporting Thailand to become a carbon-neutral society, which has resulted in various carbon-reduction initiatives around the country. One of the initiatives was the opening of a world-class paint factory earlier this year to deliver high-quality automotive painting utilizing cutting-edge, environmentally friendly technology. At present, the localization ratio of Mitsubishi Motors Thailand's products is fairly strong, especially our main products such as Mitsubishi Triton, Mitsubishi Mirage and Mitsubishi Attrage use local content more than 90%. The Outlander PHEV has also been made locally since 2020.


Mitsubishi Motors Thailand was the first company to export the made in Thailand vehicles in 1988, and it continues to be one of the largest exporters of Thailand to more than 120 nations. Among its flagship models, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, a plug-in hybrid SUV, was introduced with the goal of providing high performance which is good for environment also. According to the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), the study shows that PHEV itself is currently considered the most optimal powertrain option in terms of eco-friendliness when considering not only tailpipe CO2 emissions, but also the total CO2 emission overall. The model is made at the Laem Chabang factory, Chon Buri province where solar panels have been used to reduce more than 6,100 tons of carbon emissions each year.


In order to continue contributing to and growing alongside Thai society, in 2020, the company also established “Mitsubishi Motors Thailand Foundation” (MMTF) which serves as a nonprofit organization, with an aim to benefit the society through three focuses in “environment”, “health”, and “education”, in order to be part in enhancing Thai people’s quality of life and driving the overall Thai society to achieve sustainable development.


Several social projects have been initiated as the CSR direction, “To Contribute and Grow with Thai Society”. The most recent CSR activity is a collaboration with health and energy officials to establish green hospitals by installing solar panels at community hospitals around the country through the “Solar for Lives” project. Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has also promoted educational equality in Thai society through a variety of initiatives, including the Mitsubishi Motors Give Chance, Give Education project through the Equitable Education Fund (EEF), the MMTh VTECH Scholarship Program as well as internship opportunities for Thai youth.


Currently, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has created 6,300 employments across the whole business value chain, ranging from suppliers to dealer networks. The Education Academy was founded in 2018 to provide training courses to help dealer employees enhance their service and technical skills to maximize customer satisfaction.


Thailand Top Company Awards is organized by Business Plus magazine, under the ARIP Public Company Limited, and the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce. The award that has been started since 2013 honors businesses proven to be highly and consistently effective for society. The awarded companies are evaluated using key business quality indicators and data analysis by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce. The honorable awards which are divided into two categories; one is the best performance of each industry, and the other is the various type of excellence such as top management, CSR, corporate sustainability, etc.
