Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s Factory 1 and 2 Recognized with Green Star-White Flag Award 2023 by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand

Supporting the automaker's vision for sustainable development in Thailand

BANGKOK – February 21, 2024: Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. recently received the Green Star-White Flag Award 2023 from the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) for both its Factory 1 and 2 in Laem Chabang, Chonburi, demonstrating the automaker’s excellence across all five evaluation criteria that include Physical Dimension, Economic Dimension, Environmental Dimension, Social Dimension, and Management Dimension. The accomplishment underscores Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s commitment to sustainable development, improving the quality of life for local communities, and contributing to the advancement of Thai society.

The Green Star-White Flag Award seeks to enhance community involvement in plant inspection and monitoring within industrial areas. It also aims to promote ethical principles, environmental awareness, and social responsibility, fostering trust and confidence among all stakeholders in factory management. This initiative also helps establish transparency and standards, allowing industries and communities to coexist and grow sustainably.

Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s Factory 1 and 2 achieved full compliance across all aspects, starting with the ‘Physical Dimension’, through the implementation of a buffer zone and an efficient drainage system that clearly separates rainwater from wastewater. In the ‘Economic Dimension’, the company has been actively supporting local and community businesses.

Additionally, the annual ‘MMTh Talent Internship Program’ provides university students with opportunities to apply their theoretical knowledge at Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s state-of-the-art automotive manufacturing facility, while receiving guidance from experienced professionals as they prepare for their future careers.

Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s Factory 1 and 2 have also met the 'Environmental Dimension' requirement by the implementation of wastewater management, waste management, and energy management, while promoting a green culture. For ‘Social Dimension’, the company has collaborated with the community to initiate several social and community campaigns such as the LCB water conservation project and the Eco-school project. These are aimed at promoting environmental protection through community cooperation to enhance quality of life. Other internal projects include blood donation and scholarship for employees’ children, further contributing to the improvement and quality of life of its employees.

Throughout the years, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has obtained ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications from TUV, showcasing its excellence in the 'Management Dimension'. Additionally, the company’s green procurement practices are in line with its commitment to environmentally-friendly procurement.

The Green Star-White Flag Award was established by the IEAT in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in 2007 to promote excellence in governance, environmental practices, and project safety, by encouraging public involvement in industrial area inspections and monitoring. This fosters confidence and trust in the factories’ operations. In 2023, 154 factories across 32 industrial estates were granted the ‘Green Star-White Flag’ Award while 39 factories received the ‘Gold Star-White Flag’ Award in recognition of their environmental efforts.
