Mitsubishi Motors Thailand Achieves Seven Million Units Production Milestone, Emphasizing Its Leadership in Automotive Innovation

BANGKOK – January 18, 2024: Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has reached another significant milestone with the production of the seven-million unit at its Laem Chabang facility in Chonburi. The landmark vehicle was the All-New Mitsubishi Triton.

Mr. Ryoichi Inaba, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. said, “This is an important milestone for Mitsubishi Motors Thailand. We have been at the forefront, contributing to Thailand's development for over 63 years. This is underpinned by our commitment to seven key pillars including investment, export, environment, technology transfer, social responsibility, human resource development and employment.”

Today, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand's facilities are capable of a maximum annual production of more than 400,000 vehicles, 80 percent of which are destined for export to over 120 countries worldwide. As one of Thailand's forefront auto exporters, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has accumulated an export volume exceeding 5.5 million units, equivalent to 80% of its total production.

In 2023, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand inaugurated a new production line at its Laem Chabang plant designed for the manufacturing of the All-New Mitsubishi Triton. Regarded as one of Thailand's most extensively automated welding lines, it boasts an impressive automation ratio of 95 percent, featuring over 250 intelligent robots. This cutting-edge line has the capacity to assemble around 200,000 vehicle bodies annually, ensuring an unparalleled level of precision, quality, and fit and finish that surpasses human capabilities.

Mitsubishi Motors Thailand commenced its operations in the country in 1961 and achieved the one-million benchmark in 2003. The second million was attained in 2010, followed by the third million in 2013. With escalating demand, the company reached the four-million mark in 2015, and five-million mark in 2018. Later, in honor of its 60th anniversary in Thailand in 2021, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand achieved another significant milestone by producing its six million unit.

Mitsubishi Motors Thailand currently operates three assembly facilities, an engine manufacturing facility, a paint shop, and a global parts logistics facility. It is also home to the first proving ground outside Japan, with the focus on advancing research and development (R&D). In 2018, the company inaugurated the Education Academy in Pathum Thani, which has recently been honored as the ASEAN Regional Training Center (ARTC) in late 2023. Moving forward, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand is dedicated to expanding its growth in the country via continued investment while serving communities in which it operates.
