From DNA of Victory to Driving Force of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport
One of Mitsubishi’s prides is the victory from the Dakar Rally — previously known as the Paris-Dakar Rally, which has been long recognized as the world’s toughest and most challenging motor race. Mitsubishi also holds the unbeatable record of being the only automaker with seven consecutive years of victory and a total of 12 wins. These have earned Mitsubishi Pajero the epithet of the King of the Desert, which is simply the endorsement of the DNA of Victory and its transference to the reigning driving force of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
No one will ever be able to convey such a great story better than Hiroshi Masuoka — the man who has led the Mitsubishi Team to victory for two years in a row. After completing the races, Mr. Masuoka has moved on to help write a new history by making use of all he has learnt and experienced while in the rally and becoming an important member of the research and development team for several future models of Mitsubishi Pajero.
“It's not only about speed, but also safety. The passenger compartment must be comfortable for both the driver and the passengers.”
- Hiroshi Masuoka
For Mr. Masuoka, the heart of a perfect car comprises speed, strength, durability, safety and comfort. These attributes make up for the DNA that will be passed on from generation to generation as it is applied in the development of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
At the recent 2017 Thailand Motor Show, Mr. Masuoka was the honorable guest for the driving test of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in Thailand, during which he got to test:
- 8 Speed Automatic Transmission and the Paddle Shift
The latest smart automatic transmission, which comes with 8-speed gear ratios and the electronically-controlled transmission, gives a smooth feel while shifting gears as the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters offers more joy and control to the driver.
“Shifting gears is pretty smooth while speeding is easy without losing power at all.”
- Active Stability Control
The system that helps control the stability of the vehicle while losing balance to prevent it from skidding off the road in such events as speeding and missing a sharp curve, driving on slippery road or making a sudden turn to avoid collision.
- Active Traction Control
The system that offers a balanced control of all four wheels while moving on slippery or rough surface or on a steep slope to ensure that you will not lose traction of driven road wheels.
“Even when I made a turn while speeding, the system still had a full control over the direction I was heading to.”
- Anti-Lock Braking System or ABS
ABS will be activated with any sudden brake in order to help you timely avoid crashing into any obstruction.
“The car’s traction of the road helps me make a stop with confidence as it makes the braking distance shorter while keeping the vehicle stable.”
- Adaptive Cruise Control
This system will help maintain the speed set by the driver while working with the radar sensor. If it detects that the car ahead is running slower than the set speed, the system will slow down to keep the pace with that car and will speed up to the set level once the car in front of you is out of range of the radar sensor. This can ensure driving comfort and safety throughout the journey.
