Suphan Buri … an Old-Town Way of Life that Resonates Traditional Culture

“Suphan Buri — the town of elephant duels and literature of repute, where respected Buddhist amulets and agricultural opulence accentuate esteemed history and discerning philosophers along delightful dialect” … It must be the charm of the local accent that easily make us all fall in love with this province. And, it’s not only the people here that are endearing, but also the many fascinating holiday destinations in the province. So, let’s waste no time and get on this journey to rejuvenation.

As a start for this trip, we’ll make a stop to visit the elderly at a nursing home and invite all travelers to join a CSR activity, in which necessities will be donated to the Center for the Promotion of the Quality of Life of the Elderly in Bang Pla Ma District of Suphan Buri.

After that, we will move on to the Lifestyle and Spirit of Thai Farmers Learning Center, where locals commonly call “Na Hia Chai” and is located in the center of Suphan Buri. This center was founded to pay homage for the late HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej and to express gratitude of Thai people for his graciousness bestowed on them. Visitors will be able to to learn interesting facts and information about modern-day farming from the marvelous and vast green paddy fields as well as several traditional Thai houses from different eras around them, or enjoy a panoramic view of the area from the standing tower nearby. At lunch, Chef Ping and our special guest — actor and TV host — Ray MacDonald, will host a cooking workshop to help travelers create their personal signature dishes from the famous local fish “sun-dried boeseman croaker”, for which the creators can give the names to the creations themselves.

Then, we will resume our journey on The New Mitsubishi Pajero Sport caravan to pay respect to “Luang Por U-thong” — Thailand’s one-of-a-kind and only Buddha statue carved into a side of the cliff of what was once a quarry. This majestic and magnificent grandeur is definitely more than worth visiting once in a lifetime.

The last stop of our trip will be the Celestial Dragon Village, which is a replica of a village in Lijiang city of China's Yunnan province. Here in Suphan Buri, visitors can get a glimpse of how an ancient Chinese village looks like as the whole compound features authentic Chinese decors, such as Chinese dragons on the pillars, down to the last details. The highlight of the village is none other than the giant Chinese dragon statue, which houses the Dragon Descendants Museum for visitors to learn more about the history of China. There are also the 7-storey pagoda and the Suphan Buri City Pillar Shrine, where visitors can enter to pay respect to statues of various Chinese gods including Bentougong or the Chinese Land God in the Thai Society, to whom the people of Suphan Buri prays for their security and safety.

As we wrap up this trip inspired by the “Off Road Spirit” concept, we look forward to seeing you again on the next “One Day trip with The New Mitsubishi Pajero Sport” for more charming destinations conveniently accessible from Bangkok.
