All New Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Be One with Nature at Cheow Lan Dam

The Amazing Road Trips with the All New Pajero Sport is back and we’re going to travel from Phattalung to Surat Thani Province. Surat Thani has an abundance of beautiful islands but we’re going to shake things up and bring you to the no less stunning Cheow Lan Dam, which can easily rival China’s breathtaking Guilin. Moreover, we’ll also be visiting Khao Sok National Park.

Get to Know Our Destination

Cheow Lan Dam was bestowed the name Rajjaprabha, which means the light of the kingdom, by His Majesty the King. It is located adjacent to the Khao Sok National Park and spans an area of 185 square kilometers with the capacity to hold 5,638.8 million cubic meters of water and can produce 544 million kilowatts of electricity per hour. Construction on the dam commenced on February 9, 1982 and completed in 1987. The dam features limestone cliffs and mountains on all sides. The morning mist that reflects the sunlight never ceases to take visitors’ breaths away.

The Khao Sok National Park is located in Phanom and Ban Ta Khun districts. The national park is a combination of lush jungles and mountains with very little plain area. The park has an area of 738.74 square kilometers or 461,712.5 rai and was established as a national park on December 22, 1979. Many wild animals inhabit the Khao Sok National Park, which was also once home to the now extinct in Thailand Sumatran rhinoceros. Apart from wildlife, the park also boasts a variety of plant life, the most spectacular of which is the humungous Rafflesia Kerrii flower.

Fun is sun

  • A visit to Cheow Lan Dam won’t be complete without an overnight stay on a floating bungalow. If you’re an adrenaline junky, go for kayaking and swimming in the lake, but if you prefer something more sedate, a boat trip to view the limestone caves and the three hills in the middle of the lake is just the thing for you.
  • What you must try at the Khao Sok National Park is trek through the woods. The gigantic Rafflesia Kerrii flowers will be in bloom in November to March but you will need to trek about 2-5 kilometers to see them.
  • If you are tired by all the walking, stop by the Mae Yai Waterfall which is located right next to the main road which means you don’t need to walk any farther.

Travel Tips

  • Cheow Lan Dam can be visited all year round because each season brings about a different atmosphere.
  • Each floating bungalow would charge a minimum of 1,000 Baht per visitor which includes 3 meals and an overnight stay. The long-tail boat ride to your chosen bungalow would cost between 2,000-2,500 Baht and you can find your own or get your bungalow to book one for you. The boat ride to visit surrounding caves would cost 700 Baht. You can choose between a bungalow with fan, with air-conditioning, with communal toilets, or with an en-suite toilet depending on your budget. If you are traveling with seniors or small children, you might want to consider staying on land.
  • Be warned that the floating bungalows may not have electricity during the day and mobile phone signal will be sparse.

How to Get There

To travel from Phattalung to Surat Thani, drive your Mitsubishi Pajero Sport north pass Nakhon Si Thammarat for 270 kilometers. Once you reach the Ban Pang Kuan Klua three-way junction, turn right and you’ll come across a huge sign welcoming you to Rajjaprabha Dam when you pass Ban Ta Khun.

Safe Driving Tips

For this rainy season, wet and slippery roads are unavoidable so our trip with the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport to Songkhla will utilize the 4-wheel drive system, using 4H (4WD HIGH-RANGE) to increase traction and safety with the constant rain that makes the roads slippery. At some intervals, you may need to travel at a slower speed.
Despite the constant heavy rain in the South, drive your Mitsubishi Pajero Sport with confidence because it comes equipped with an automatic windshield wiper that increases your convenience while driving.
